During the interval 02 –05UT on 20th December 1998 a distinct boundary in the spectral width parameter is observed in the CUTLASS radar data from Hankasalmi, Finland. Such a boundary has been suggested as the ionospheric footprint of the open – closed field line boundary. This interval is chosen since both EISCAT mainland and EISCAT Svalbard radars cover the area of interest at that time. These, and other data sets commonly available, are used in an attempt to discern the reason for the boundary in the spectral width, and its subsequent motion. Preliminary results are given.
