The effects of interplanetary CMEs on the rate of scattering occurrence of the SuperDARN HF coherent scatter radars have been studied for a list of selected events. An increase of the scattering occurrence rate has been found in association with the increased geomagnetic activity. The interplanetary parameters which have been found to influence significantly this increase are the electric merging field and the vertical component of the interplanetary magnetic field. These observations confirm the expected increase of irregularities in the ionospheric density during the higher geomagnetic activity. Moreover the present results are of interest for further studies in course of development about the propagation and refraction of the high-latitude ionosphere during elevated levels of geomagnetic disturbances.
